Father's Day Cards
Toddletown Day Nursery in Farncombe won't be open in time for Father's Day this year, but if you're looking for inspiration for the perfect homemade card, we have a couple of ideas for you!
Monkey Father's Day card
What you'll need:
- A piece of Card
- A piece of string
- Brown paint
- Glue
- A marker
- Little one's finger and thumb
Steps
- Fold your piece of card in half and place it flat on a table.
- Now you can either dip your little one's thumb in a small amount of brown paint or paint a very thin layer onto baby’s thumb.
- About a third of the way down and starting on one side of the card, place your baby’s thumb, repeat this along the card spread evenly about 3-4 times. It doesn't matter if this is a perfectly straight line or not.
- Clean off their thumb and repeat step 2 with baby's index finger.
- Above all the thumbprints, do the same with the index fingerprint. This will be the monkey's head, the thumbprint is the body.
- Glue the rope the whole length across the card about an inch above the fingerprints.
- Now draw legs, arms, ears, mouth and a tail on each monkey. This doesn't need to be anything fancy or complicated.
- Above your rope with a big marker write ' I love hangin' with you dad!'
Our next idea provides a great excuse to go for a walk and explore!
Dad Rocks
For this activity you'll need:
- A rock
- Paint
- A permanent marker
- Nontoxic varnish if possible
Steps
- Head out for a fun walk. This can either be just outside your home or turn it into an adventure to the local woods and go on a hunt for the perfect unusual rock.
- Give your rock a really good clean with soap and dry well.
- Paint your rock, be as creative and colourful as you like. Then leave to dry.
- Using a permanent marker write a short special message on your rock to dad. My personal favourite is 'My Dad Rocks'.
- If possible, have a grown-up varnish the rock so the paint will last. It is possible to get non-toxic varnish if older children would prefer to varnish themselves.
- Leave to dry before giving your Dad his very own decorated rock!
