Welcome to Toddletown in Farncombe! While the nursery renovation works are underway, we wanted to keep sharing ideas for learning through play that you can easily do at home before your little one starts with us!
There are many creative ways for children to learn their colours. This is just one easy way that can do together at home.
What you will need
Steps
1. Paint each of your toilet rolls a different colour and leave to dry. You could make this part of the fun and have the children paint the loo rolls for you - get them practising their fine motor skills too!
2. Using a bit of blu-tack, stick the painted loo rolls on the wall, spread out.
3. Place a matching bowl or cup on the floor directly underneath the roll (if you're feeling extra crafty, you could use paper bowls and paint them too!)
4. Give your child a pom pom, or other item that could be used as a ball, saying the colour out loudly and clearly while directing your child to find the matching colour roll.
5. Once they have found the matching colour they drop the pom pom into the roll, so that it lands in the correct colour bowl.
6. Pick another pom pom and play again!
Although your child will need help matching and identifying the colours at first, playing games like this and the repetition of colours, will soon have them playing these types of games by themselves, without the need for help.
Once they're confident, you could mix the colours around so they're in different places and even start practising throwing!
Toddletown in Farncombe will use a blended approach to learning and games such as this which cover many areas of development are a simple example of the fun your children will have with us!
