Tuesday 25th February
Shrove Tuasday is the last day of feasting before 40 days of lent begins. Its called Shrove Tuesday as it was tradition to use all the eggs, butter and fat before lent began.
Why not try these pancake day activities...
Using all our senses to explore the textures, smells and the endless results of what can be made or mark made in.
Exploring what happened when you add different ingredients such as lemon, honey, sugar or even vanilla essences. Exploring the smells and consistency of the ingredients.
Can you create your own pancake?
There are two ways you could carry out this activity.
1) Pre print the ingredients used to make pancakes, talk about what you would need to create a pancake, can the ingredients be recognised?
2) Let your children design their own plate and then using the scissors under adult supervision cut out the ingredients and stick them on the plate.
3) Pre print a range of toppings, from the traditional to the non-traditional such as savoury items, cheese mushrooms. Again talk through the pictures, identifying the items or perhaps talk about the tastes of them.
2) Let your children draw their pancake, then under adult supervision use the scissors to cut the toppings out and create their own pancake.
What's your favourite pancake topping?
